New Hospital Building Addition - Mammoth Hospital & Sierra Park Clinics
The existing hospital opened in September 1978.
In the November 2001 election, the community passed a $22.5 million general obligation bond issue to fund:
* Construction of Family Medicine Clinic addition to existing clinic building
* Some remodeling of existing clinic building
* Construction of 38,000 square foot addition to original hospital building
* Construction of parking lot to support new hospital addition
There have been misconceptions about what this money was to fund. Contrary to rumors, the following were not funded by the bond:
* S.P.O.R.T. Building on the front of the medical campus
* New computer information system
* Old Cast Off building
* Approximately $1 million of additional furnishings, fixtures & equipment
* New digital imaging technology
* New mammography machine (this was funded entirely via philanthropy)
The new hospital addition would house the following services, all to be completely relocated from original hospital building: Perioperative services, Imaging Services, Emergency Department (including decontamination room), Labor & Delivery, Admitting Department & Emergency Registration.
All new digital imaging technology - state of the art - will replace all existing equipment (the leased MRI trailer in the campus’ front parking lot will disappear). Digital means “filmless”.
The new addition will also have PACS (Picture Archiving & Communication System) for radiologist usage - advanced imaging, viewing and image reconstruction capability, as well as ability to electronically send/receive digital images to/from other physicians/facilities. This will provide significantly expanded and badly needed space to meet not only current patient volumes, but anticipated community growth - hopefully, over the next 20-30 years.
The vacated original hospital space to be converted for administrative uses (Information technology, staff offices, etc.). The new building is expected to open by end of May 2007 - pending State inspections and occupancy approvals.
